چکیده
Radio frequency~ identification (RFIDW is a technology where a reader device can "sense" the presence of a close-by object by reading a tag device attached to the object. To improve coverage, multiple RFID readers can be deployed in the given region. In this paper, we consider the problem of slotted scheduled access of RFID tags in a multiple reader environment. In particular, we develop centralized algorithms in a slotted time model to read all the tags using near-optimal number ot time slots. We consider two scenarios-one wherein the tag distribution in the physical space is unknown, and the other where tag distribution is known or can be estimated a priori. For each ot these scenarios, we consider two cases depending on whether a single channel or multiple channels are available. All the above version of the problem are NP-hard. We design approximation algorithms for the single channel and heuristic algorithms for the multiple channel cases. Through extensive simulations, we show that for the single channel case, our heuristics perform close to the approximation algorithms. In general, our simulations show that our algorithms significantly outperform Colorwave, an existing algorithm for similar problems.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a new generation of automatic identification systems, based on wireless communication technology. In these systems all the tags using one communication channel to communicate with the reader. When two or more tags transmit their data to the reader simultaneously, their transmitted signals will collide. Resolving this collision has a direct impact on the ...

In passive RFID systems, tags are arbitrated on the Medium Access Control layer by the Framed Slotted Aloha protocol. Tags select an arbitrary slot to send their information, such that the reader receives slots with no responses, single tag responses or multiple tag responses, generating empty, singleton and collision slots, respectively. In order to maximize the system throughput, precise know...

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) became the most popular and used technology for items identification and tracking. Typical scenario of its application is a pallet of products bearing RFID tag, which passes by portal equipped with RFID antennas. In such scenario it is important to identify all tags as soon as possible. Access control mechanism widely used in RFID system is Dynamic Framed S...
متن کاملNovel Dynamic Framed-Slotted ALOHA Using Litmus Slots in RFID Systems
Dynamic Framed Slotted ALOHA (DFSA) is one of the most popular protocols to resolve tag collisions in RFID systems. In DFSA, it is widely known that the optimal performance is achieved when the frame size is equal to the number of tags. So, a reader dynamically adjusts the next frame size according to the current number of tags. Thus it is important to estimate the number of tags exactly. In th...
متن کاملGrouping Based Dynamic Framed Slotted ALOHA for Tag Anti-Collision Protocol in the Mobile RFID Systems
Dynamic framed slotted ALOHA (DFSA) protocol has been widely used in many RFID systems. According to the information from last frame (e.g. the number of idle, success and collision slots), DFSA dynamically adjusts the next frame size so as to reach higher identification efficiency. The process is known as tag estimation of DFSA. Similar to most existing tag anti-collision protocols, The DFSA in...
